Below, you will find the official Rule & Policies for TIDE students.
TRAVEL & PERSONAL EXPENSES
- It is the student's responsibility to obtain their own flight ticket at their own expense, as well as purchasing medical and cancellation insurance.
- All personal expenses will be the student's responsibility, such as shopping, restaurants, extracurricular activities, sight-seeing, and so on.
- It is the student's responsibility to cover the expenses involved if they wish to enrol in additional classes not covered, private classes, or extra choreography.
- Make sure you know the currency and exchange rate of the country you are traveling to. Most credit and bank cards will work in most countries, however, some student bank cards will not work so please check with your financial institution before you leave your home country.
EXPENSES COVERED
- Your Host Family will pick you up from the closest international airport and take you back once the program concludes
- Your Host family will supply you with room and board in their home free of charge
- Your Host Family will provide free wifi for the duration of your stay
- Dance classes will be supplied free of charge unless you enrol in private classes
CUSTOMS/IMMIGRATION
- Prior to arriving in your Host Family home, you will have had several online meetings with the family.
- The Host Family will give you all their contact information, including their Name(s), Address, Phone Number(s), and Email Address. You will need this information at customs
- It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to obtain a visitors visa if needeed. Please confirm if you need one to enter whichever country your chosen program is in.
- If customs asks the reason that you are coming, tell them that you are a VISITOR and plan to take some dance classes.
MEDICAL INSURANCE
- Dancers are required to get their own travel and medical insurance, however keep in mind that health insurance may not be comprehensive coverage.
- Pre-existing conditions, immunizations, routine health checkups, and preventative care is not covered. Pre-approval for certain treatment may also be necessary.
- Pre-existing conditions are defined as any injury, sickness, disease, or other condition that the student had symptoms of or had been seen by a doctor within 36 months of the start of the program.
- EXAMPLES of what is NOT covered include: dermatology visits for acne or other pre-existing skin conditions, any pure-existing conditions such as thyroid, diabetes, vision issues, physical ailments, physical therapy if needed, dental/orthodontic visits & treatment, and more
- It is important to know that the Host Family will not sign as your guarantor for any medical expenses you incur during your stay. It is the student/student's family that is responsible for any medical invoices are cleared before departing the Host Family home.
- Please make sure that the Host Family has access to all your medical information, insurance, medical releasee, and passport in case of emergency
FORBIDDEN
- The use/possession of alcohol, tobacco, un-prescribed medication, and illicit drugs are forbidden
- TIDE program participants are expected to attend all classes
- Independent travel within the host country is not permitted. Overnight travel is only allowed with the host family, with written consent from the minor dancers family
- Obscene, indecent, violent, or disorderly conduct (in-person or digitally) during the program at any point is grounds for dismissal. In the case of early dismissal, for any reason, all expenses in regard to early departure home will be the responsibility of the dancer.
- Host Families determine the house rules & expectations while you are in their household. TIDE participants are expected to follow their rules with respect to chores, curfews, social activities, and cell phone/internet usage.
- TIDE program participants are required to have their own spending money. Student's are forbidden to borrow money from the host family.
- Friendships are encouraged, however, sexual/intimate relationships are forbidden during your stay.
- The TIDE students are not to drive/have care and control of any motorized vehicles during their stay
- The handling of firearms by TIDE students during their stay is strictly forbidden
- TIDE program participants are required to depart within a few days from the last day of class.
TIPS: WHAT TO PACK
- RESEARCH YOUR DESTINATION: Understand the local weather, culture, and lifestyle of the Host Country and Host Family. Don't forget about dance clothes for the classes you are taking!
- PACK TRAVEL-SIZED TOILETRIES: Opt for travel-sized/small toiletries to save space and refill them as needed
- CHECK VOLTAGE & PLUG ADAPTERS: Ensure that your electronic devices are compatible with the local voltage and bring the necessary transformers/plug adapters
- PACK ESSENTIAL IN YOUR CARRY-ON: Important documents, medications, and valuable items should be in your carry-on bag in case your checked baggage gets dellayed or lost.
- CHECK BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE: Be aware of your airline’s baggage allowance and any fees for exceeding weight limits.
- LEAVE ROOM FOR SOUVENIRS: If you anticipate yourself purchasing souvenirs, leave some space in your luggage or consider shipping items home.
- LABEL YOUR BAGGAGE: Label your suitcases/bags with your contact information to help identify if it gets lost. Taking a pic of your luggage helps as well.
- SECURE VALUABLES: Keep your valuable and sentimental items at home. Any important personal items that you bring, such as electronics & passport, should be stored in a secure location and accessible. Consider purchasing an anti-theft backpack.
- LEARN PACKING HACKS: Research additional packing hacks and techniques, such as using plastic bags for toiletries or stuffing socks inside your shoes to save space...
- LEARN ABOUT LAYERING: Regarding your daily outfits, consider the layering approach, which allows you to adapt to changing weather conditons without packing bulky items.
TIPS: WHAT NOT TO PACK
- BOOKS: You won't need too many books that aren't necessary for your short stay. Avoid bringing a vast collection of physical books and instead, bring an E-book reader for consider adding a book app on your phone
- NON-ESSENTIAL TOILETRY ITEMS: They take up a lot of valuable space in your suitcase and you can probably purchase in your Host Country.
- HEAVY WINTER GEAR: If you are studying in a warm climate, or during the summer, there is no need to pack heavy winter coats, boots, and accessories.
- EXCESSIVE CLOTHING: Avoid bringing your entire wardrobe. Pack clothing suitable for the local weather during the duration of your stay - but don't forget your dance clothes!
- VALUABLE JEWELRY: Leave your expensive and/or sentimental jewelry at home to reduce the risk of loss or theft
- TOO MANY SHOES: Limit the number of shoes that you pack. A few versatilely pairs for different occasions should be enough. Don't forget your dance shoes!
- PROHIBITED/RESTRICTED ITEMS: Be aware of any items that may be prohibited or restricted by your host country's customs and regulations - and avoid packing them
- * You may want to extend this list and add a few more things - you can pack these items if you desire - we are just suggesting that you will not many of these items as a dance exchange student
